VIRUS THEATER'S FALL FESTIVAL
October 4th through October 20th
All four of the season's productions will be performed during the three-week festival that will target audiences from near and far to take advantage of the opportunity to spend a few days downtown, catch three to four live Virus Theater shows, and visit Silver City's restaurants, galleries, and shops. This Festival is our prototype for the future of Virus Theater, which will eventually develop a longer theater season, comprising multiple productions
Performances: May 18th through June 16th
Performances: Fall Festival October 12th through 21st
In May, Virus Theater launches its first in a series of Western melodramas! This original play will be developed by the cast, writers, and director in the traditional melodrama style, and focused on the culture and history of southwest New Mexico. The tone will be saucy and slapstick, the characters classic, and the humor uproarious!
THE KIDS SHOW
In June, a troupe of kids will create a play complete with puppets and circus acts during a 4-week workshop culminating in a colorful performance at the end of June. Working with the Monsoon Puppet Theater, the workshop will recruit area kids to teach them various aspects of creation and performance in a highly-physical training program. The show will be revived and refined during our Fall Festival, October 12th through 21st.
Performances: September 20th through October 20th
The ensemble cast of Virus Theater begins work on their next epic original creative production in January and will perform in September and October of 2018. We don't know what the story is yet, but we know it will be filled with abundant humor and humanity. Virus Theater delves into our cores to produce evocative and relevant theater in a collaborative process that always brings about something unique.
BLATANT ATTEMPTS AT UNDERSTANDING
Performances: October 4th through October 20th
Based on the writings of Melanie Zipin, a collection of self-reflective and humorous essays, "Blatant Attempts At Understanding," was produced as a staged reading during the 2017 Southwest Festival of the Written Word. We bring it back in expanded form, with the same poetic physical staging that complements the lyricism and wit of the writer's tone.
